We Raised $23,472 in 2022!

BQLT has gone above and beyond our $20K goal for the 2022 #BrooklynGives campaign through the Brooklyn Community Foundation. We kicked it off early this year on November 9th and our devoted community of gardeners and friends of BQLT truly showed us their generosity by helping us raise a total of $23,472!

We’re proud to say we made the 2022 BrooklynGives Leaderboards: Ranked #4 for total number of donors (152) and Ranked #18 for total amount raised!

Preserving our BQLT community gardens and our urban trees is more critical than ever before with effects of climate change increasing; encroachment by development; rising costs of lumber, soil, and other garden supplies; and everyone’s continuing need for green space to rest, reconnect, and recharge!

We’re so thankful for these 4 generous DOUBLE MATCHES during our 2022 fundraiser:

*DOUBLE MATCH #1 from BQLT Board Emeritus, Irene Van Slyke ($2500)*

For over 20 years, Irene has offered BQLT her support and infinite wisdom. Irene was involved in BQLT’s formative years serving as Treasurer and Secretary, and currently is active on several committees and co-chairs our Tree Committee. Irene has been a gardener at BQLT’s David Foulke Memorial Garden for 40+ years and heads up the Political Committee of the NYC Sierra Club.

**DOUBLE MATCH #2 from Sierra Club NYC ($2500)**

Catherine Skopic, Chair of the Sierra Club NYC Group:

“The Sierra Club stands for the preservation of the natural environment and it is only natural that we support the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust in its fundraising campaign. BQLT stewards the open spaces of 37 community gardens so rare in today’s dense NYC.  I wish you much success.”

***DOUBLE MATCH #3 from Meg Fellerath & Seth Goodwin ($750)***

Starts on December 22nd 2022 to mark the 11th Anniversary of the 32 Garden Deeds’ Transfer from Trust for Public Land to BQLT on this date in 2011.

For over 10 years, Meg Fellerath has been a BQLT supporter and visionary leader, serving as BQLT Board President (2014-17) and Secretary (2012-14). From Meg Fellerath and her husband Seth Goodwin:

“We’re residents of Crown Heights and long-time members of BQLT’s Westbrook Memorial Garden. BQLT brings people together via open green spaces and shared experiences. Now more than ever, it is critical that BQLT remain a strong and vibrant organization in service of its many diverse communities throughout Brooklyn and Queens.”

****DOUBLE MATCH #4 from Demetrice & Dorothy Mills Family Fund ($1000)****

December 28th-31st for the Final Year-End Fundraising

Demetrice and Dorothy Mills have been long-time, loyal BQLT supporters since 2006 and continue to keep BQLT going strong. Demetrice served as BQLT Treasurer, Secretary, and Board President (2010-2014), as well as chair of the Operations Committee for over 11 years. Dorothy served on the Nominations Committee and in many vital capacities over the years! They were long-time members of BQLT’s Classon Ful-gate Block Association Garden. Their legacy is embedded in the organization, and we truly appreciate their on-going financial support.
