McIntosh Neighborhood Garden

Overview:

Started in 1978 as the McIntosh Neighborhood Association Garden by several co-founders, including the late Ms. Ada Smothers. She was devoted to this garden and served as the BQLT Representative for 20+ years. We now have over 15 communal raised beds for growing herbs and vegetables. This triangle-shaped garden is also filled with flowers, fruit trees (fig, peach, & paw-paw), and other mature trees. The garden has a small, but mighty group of culturally and age diverse gardeners, and hosts youth volunteers like the Veggie Nuggets' Green Team/Climate activists, BQLT Interns (2023-24) and Green Guerillas Youth Interns (2025). McIntosh Garden served as a NY Cares volunteer project from 2005-2024, and has truly appreciated the extra help from others (i.e. CM Francesco Moya) in this bountiful green patch in Western Queens!  Looking for new members from the surrounding neighborhoods!

Special Features:
  • Raised beds
  • 2 Earth machine compost bins
  • Gazebo
  • Pollinator-friendly plants & street tree care
  • NY Cares Volunteer project (2005-2024)
