BQLT’s 2023 BrooklynGives Campaign–We raised $14,210!

We raised $14,210 in our 2023 BrooklynGives Fundraising Campaign! BQLT took part in the BrooklynGives initiative again this giving season, sponsored by Brooklyn Org [formerly called the Brooklyn Community Foundation]. Our Campaign started on Nov 22nd to build momentum towards #GivingTuesday on Nov 28th, and continued until midnight on Dec 31st 2023. We thank all of our 120+ individual donors who support our mission to preserve our 37 BQLT community gardens and our gardens’ urban trees! This is more critical than ever before with effects of climate change increasing; encroachment by development; rising costs of lumber, soil, and other garden supplies; and peoples’ continuing need for green space to rest, reconnect, and recharge in a busy city!

Our BrooklynGives BQLT campaign page featured our board members’ fundraisers’ pages and we were blessed with 3 DOUBLE MATCHES during our 2023 campaign:

1) A DOUBLE MATCH ($3000) from Sierra Club NYC:

“Community gardens are intersectional solutions to multiple crises impacting human and environmental health. The Sierra Club proudly supports grassroots, community organizations, like the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust, that work to protect and promote their local ecosystems. Now, perhaps more than ever before, is the time for local, environmental stewardship and we thank the BQLT for their service.” – Karl Palmquist, Chairperson, Sierra Club New York City Group

2) A DOUBLE MATCH ($750) from Bonnie Webber, a Sierra Club NYC Executive Committee member, who supports BQLT’s mission of preserving and stewarding community gardens!

3) A DOUBLE MATCH ($500) from the Friends of Senator Velmanette Montgomery, a long-time BQLT supporter!

“The value of a community garden is not just the crops you grow but it is a very important social, cultural and economic engine in each neighborhood where it is located.”  – NY State Senator Velmanette Montgomery (Retired)
