BOLT turns 20 this year! We kicked off our growing season celebration with a series of jazz concerts in several of our Brooklyn and Queens gardens curated by bassist and composer Tony DePaolis. A Pittsburgh native recently relocated to Brooklyn, Tony’s cross-genre compositions have been performed by Daru Jones (drummer with Jack White), Horace Silver alum Roger Humphries, and jazz educator Sean Jones. He has also worked extensively as a sideman with guitar greats Joe Negri of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood fame and Jimmy Ponder.
The jazz concerts were hosted by BQLT community gardens on three Summer Saturdays: June 22nd, June 29th, and July 6th 2024. Sadly, the July 13th concert was cancelled due to inclement weather and heat. Stay tuned for updates on a new date!
We couldn’t imagine a better way to begin our 20th summer together than this series, which offered performances by carefully curated artists coming together to pay tribute to the spirit of community embodied by the BQLT mission, with special care to note the history of the music presented.
Events like these are made possible by direct support from the community. Thank you to the host gardens, to jazz concert attendees, and to our donors for your help to bring events, workshops and other activities to our gardens!
*Attendees were asked to make a suggested donation of $25 or more for our 20th Anniversary Fundraiser, but low-to-no cost tickets tickets were also available!
